GTA 6 has working buses and trains across Leonida, Edge reports
Leonida’s roads will not be the only way its inhabitants move. Edge’s Rockstar-controlled GTA VI demonstration describes functioning buses and trains, while senior interior artist Phil Hooker explains how he followed arrivals and rode routes across the state while working on the world. Public transport may therefore contribute to both travel and the rhythm of everyday life.

Rockstar describes a functioning network
[Edge’s feature](https://www.gamesradar.com/edge/gtavi-cover/) says Leonida has fully functioning buses and trains. Senior interior artist Phil Hooker describes watching when buses arrived, riding across the state and learning routes while working on the game. The account suggests that transport was treated as part of the world’s internal logic rather than static roadside decoration. The word functioning should still be handled carefully. Edge does not publish a route list or demonstrate every service. It does not say that each train carriage opens to the player, that all bus stops have readable schedules or that disruptions and delays are simulated.
Public transport can shape more than fast travel
Buses and trains can establish where residents live, work and gather. A vehicle arriving at a stop can create a believable flow of pedestrians even if the player never boards it. That is an editorial reading of the design potential, not a newly confirmed crowd system. If boardable, the network could offer a lower-profile alternative to stealing a car or create a route for roleplay. Edge does not confirm either use in enough detail to promise it. We should also avoid treating public transport as proof that GTA VI contains every real-world Miami route or reproduces local schedules exactly.
The developer anecdote reveals a production method
Hooker’s account is valuable because it describes observation rather than a marketing bullet point. Studying routes and arrivals can help artists understand the relationship between stations, streets, interiors and daily movement. It does not mean one developer personally authored the whole system or that every observed detail survived production unchanged. This approach fits Rockstar’s broader emphasis on an inhabited Leonida. It also complements our coverage of contextual pedestrian behaviour without proving a direct technical link between the two systems.
What remains to be tested
Functioning transport can make a city feel scheduled and inhabited even when the player chooses a car. The report does not prove that every bus and train is boardable, that timetables are simulated minute by minute, or that players can work as drivers. It also does not disclose fares, fast-travel rules or the complete network. Edge watched a guided demonstration rather than independently testing every route. What is confirmed is a deliberate public-transport layer in Rockstar’s presentation. How much of it becomes a player-facing system remains open.
