GTA 6 Platforms and PC Release: Confirmed Consoles, PC Status and Performance Unknowns
Grand Theft Auto VI is officially scheduled for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or PC release date, and neither its PS5-captured videos nor current store labels establish final resolution or frame-rate modes. PlayStation separately lists PS5 Pro enhancement and DualSense features; equivalent Xbox technical details remain undisclosed.

The short answer: two console families, no announced PC version
Rockstar's current public position is narrow and unambiguous: Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Take-Two's original December 2023 announcement named the same two console families, and Rockstar's present game page repeats them beside the current date. Xbox Series X|S is one announced family, so the wording includes both Series X and Series S rather than only the more powerful model.
There is no PC platform badge, PC release date or system-requirements page in the reviewed Rockstar material. That does not prove a PC version will never exist; it means one cannot currently be presented as a product Rockstar has announced. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has told interviewers that Rockstar would make further platform announcements in due time and described a history of reaching consumers on platforms that make sense over time. Those comments make a later release commercially plausible, but they are not a GTA VI PC confirmation or calendar.
PS4 and Xbox One are likewise absent from the official platform list. Their omission is stronger evidence than a hardware forecast: Rockstar has announced specific successor consoles without announcing versions for the older machines. Nintendo systems, Mac, Linux, subscription services and cloud platforms are also unannounced. A retailer placeholder, launcher string or executive comment about the broader market cannot add a platform to Rockstar's product record.
Confirmed by Rockstar and Take-Two: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
Take-Two's December 4, 2023 release is the foundational primary source. It identifies PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in the first formal platform sentence. Rockstar's current GTA VI page independently displays both labels with the November 19, 2026 release date. Because the sources name platform families rather than individual stock-keeping units, they confirm compatibility targets, not the contents, price or technical profile of every edition.
For PlayStation, the announced family covers PS5. Sony's current product page additionally labels the title PS5 Pro Enhanced, confirming that the enhanced-console program applies. That label does not, by itself, state what resolution, frame rate, ray-tracing mode or upscaling technique will be offered. Any comparison between base PS5 and PS5 Pro needs Rockstar or Sony specifications, controlled preview access, or testing of representative builds.
For Xbox, Rockstar explicitly writes Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick told VGC in November 2024 that he was not worried about Series S and said the company's labels are good at supporting platforms with different technical levels. This is an attributable executive assurance about the development approach, not measured proof of identical presentation. Rockstar has not published a Series S resolution target, graphics-mode list or feature-parity table.

PC status: plausible is not the same as announced
The accurate answer to 'Is GTA 6 coming to PC?' is that Rockstar has not announced a PC version. The distinction matters because a likely business outcome can still lack a product, date, storefront, specifications and support commitment. There is no responsible basis for a countdown to a PC launch when the publisher has not supplied the starting date.
VGC asked Zelnick about the missing PC announcement in May 2024. He replied that Rockstar has an approach to platforms seen before, would make more announcements in due time, and that Take-Two historically addresses consumers on platforms that make sense over time. This is reported executive context. It avoids ruling PC out, but it neither says development is complete nor promises a particular gap after consoles.
Analysis: Rockstar's history and the size of the PC market make a later PC edition a reasonable expectation, but historical intervals are not a schedule. Development, optimisation, anti-cheat, storefront strategy and marketing can all alter timing, and none of those explanations has been formally assigned to GTA VI by Rockstar in the cited sources. Claims of a six-month, twelve-month or two-year delay remain predictions unless a first-party announcement supplies a date.
Rumor / unknown: alleged launcher references, résumé entries, retailer pages and anonymous release windows do not currently override the public catalogue. A real PC confirmation would name the platform in a Rockstar or Take-Two release, connect to an official product page, or provide a dated first-party announcement. Until then, buyers should not purchase keys advertised as GTA VI for PC.
What the PS5 footage disclosures actually prove
Rockstar's description for Trailer 2 says the video was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5 and contains equal parts gameplay and cutscenes. The Extended Look description again identifies in-game footage captured from the PS5 version. These statements are unusually useful provenance: they say which version generated the selected images and distinguish in-engine material from a separately rendered concept trailer.
They do not turn an edited marketing presentation into a performance test. 'In-game' can include cutscenes with controlled cameras, selected weather, prepared sequences and post-production encoding. Online delivery can also change apparent sharpness and motion. Without an unambiguous output specification and frame-time capture, the videos cannot certify the final internal resolution, frame-rate lock, graphics menu, ray-tracing configuration or day-one patch.
The PS5 provenance also does not imply console exclusivity. Rockstar lists an Xbox version on the same product page. Nor does it prove that Xbox will look or perform identically: the public material offers no like-for-like Xbox capture. The defensible conclusion is simply that Rockstar chose PS5-generated images for these presentations while continuing to promise both console families.

PS5 and PS5 Pro features: what Sony now lists
PlayStation's official GTA VI page supplies platform-specific information beyond Rockstar's general listing. It marks the title as PS5 Pro Enhanced and says the game uses the PS5's high-speed SSD for rapid loading into Leonida. It also advertises DualSense haptic feedback reacting to player choices and environmental factors, adaptive-trigger resistance throughout play, and effects delivered through the controller speaker.
Those are confirmed PlayStation product claims, but their wording has limits. 'Rapid loading' is not a published loading-time measurement. Haptic reactions and adaptive resistance establish supported features, not the number of unique effects. The PS5 Pro Enhanced badge establishes an enhancement path but does not specify whether it raises resolution, image quality, ray-tracing quality, frame rate or some combination.
Rockstar's own site uses the promotional phrase 'Plays Best On PlayStation 5' and links to Sony's feature page. That language documents a marketing relationship and the benefits Sony describes. It is not a controlled finding that PS5 outperforms Xbox, and it should not be converted into a technical ranking without comparative evidence.
Xbox Series X and Series S: confirmed support, missing specifications
Both Series X and Series S are inside Rockstar's published Xbox Series X|S label. Readers do not need to infer Series S support from Microsoft's platform policy; Take-Two and Rockstar name it directly. What remains missing is the technical shape of that support. No first-party page reviewed for this guide gives separate Series X and Series S resolution targets, frame rates, storage requirements or graphics presets.
Zelnick's 2024 comments, as reported by VGC from a Take-Two earnings discussion, frame different hardware levels as a familiar publishing problem and say he was not worried. The comment is relevant because it directly addresses Series S. It is still management confidence, not an engineering breakdown and not a guarantee that every visual option will be identical between the two consoles.
Analysis: differences in output are possible because the hardware has different capabilities, but guessing the exact compromises would be speculation. A lower pixel count, reconstructed image, altered density or a shared frame-rate target are all conceivable approaches; none should be attributed to GTA VI until Rockstar, Microsoft, an access report or independent testing documents them.
Performance remains unknown: resolution, 30fps and 60fps claims
Rockstar has not published a final performance-mode table in the reviewed sources. There is no first-party promise here of 30 frames per second, 60fps, 4K output, native rendering, variable refresh rate, ray tracing or mode parity. Individual videos can be analysed, and preview participants may report the behaviour of a demonstrated build, but those findings need dates, capture conditions and attribution. They do not automatically describe retail code on every machine.
Reported analysis that a CPU-heavy open world may favour a 30fps target is technically plausible, but it remains analysis unless Rockstar defines the target. A current build can change; a marketing video can be encoded at a fixed delivery rate; an enhanced console can improve image quality without doubling simulation performance. Conversely, an unannounced mode should not be promised because a short clip appears smooth.
The useful buying rule is to separate compatibility from performance. PS5, PS5 Pro, Series X and Series S have a confirmed path to the game. The exact experience on each still needs official specifications or independent measurements. PC speculation adds another unknown layer because no supported processors, graphics cards, memory targets, operating systems, storefronts or feature set have been announced.
- Confirmed: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are scheduled for November 19, 2026.
- Confirmed by PlayStation: PS5 Pro Enhanced status plus SSD, haptic, adaptive-trigger and controller-speaker features.
- Reported: Take-Two's CEO has expressed confidence about supporting Series S and left further platform announcements to Rockstar.
- Analysis: a later PC version is commercially plausible, but no interval can be derived from precedent.
- Unknown: final resolution, frame-rate modes, platform parity, install size, PC requirements and PC date.
Upgrade expectations, editions and future hardware
There is no PS4 or Xbox One edition in Rockstar's announced list, so there is no confirmed last-generation-to-current-generation upgrade path to describe. Buyers should not assume that ownership of Grand Theft Auto V, GTA Online or a platform subscription grants GTA VI. Those are separate products and services unless an official offer explicitly bundles an entitlement.
The phrase 'upgrade' can also refer to moving between GTA VI editions rather than consoles. Store add-ons may offer an edition upgrade in a particular region, but availability, content and price belong to that product listing and can change. It should not be confused with a free PS5 Pro patch, a Series S-to-Series X entitlement, cross-progression, or a future PC copy. Each claim requires its own platform-holder or Rockstar terms.
Future consoles create an additional rumor category. Backward compatibility may allow a current game to run on later hardware, and Rockstar may release enhanced versions, but neither possibility confirms a dedicated version or free upgrade. The safe purchase decision is based on the hardware and edition named on the current store page, not assumed support for an unannounced console.
What remains unknown — and what would settle it
A Rockstar or Take-Two announcement naming Windows and a release date would settle the core PC question. An official store page could then establish launcher, region, edition and minimum requirements, while a detailed technical post could document ultrawide support, input options, upscaling, ray tracing and cross-platform services. Before those sources exist, a PC requirements table is fabricated even when its components look realistic.
For consoles, definitive answers require a Rockstar specification, platform-holder documentation with explicit modes, or independent analysis of a representative review or retail build. The questions include base PS5 versus PS5 Pro enhancements, Series X versus Series S presentation, frame-rate stability, dynamic resolution, ray tracing, storage, accessibility and whether settings change between story and online modes.
This guide will preserve earlier claims when evidence changes. A later PC announcement would update the current status rather than make old predictions retroactively confirmed. A post-launch patch could add a mode without proving it existed at launch. For now, the durable conclusion is intentionally limited: four named console models across two families have an announced route to GTA VI, while PC timing and most comparative performance details remain open.
How Rockstar's platform record developed
Take-Two names PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
The original corporate announcement says GTA VI is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not name Windows, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo hardware or cloud services.
Trailer 2 discloses PS5 capture
Rockstar says Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5 and contains equal parts gameplay and cutscenes. That identifies the source build, not the final specification of either console version.
The launch moves to November 2026
Rockstar changes the date to November 19, 2026 while retaining PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as the announced platforms. No PC date accompanies the update.
Extended Look again uses the PS5 version
Rockstar's 26-minute presentation is described as captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. The published description still does not disclose final frame-rate, resolution or an Xbox comparison.
Current platform position
Rockstar continues to list PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation labels the game PS5 Pro Enhanced and documents controller and loading features, while no official PC version, PC requirements or complete console mode table has been located.
