Why GTA 6’s viral Australian ‘X 18+’ label is not an official game rating

GTAVice.net reports that PlayStation began running regional Ultimate Edition advertisements on September 26. Its preserved Australian image shows an X 18+ mark, while European, German and Mexican versions display PEGI 18, USK 18 and D labels. The outlet updated its report to say the Australian ad had been removed by 1 PM ET on September 29. Rockstar did not announce the ratings in that campaign.
X 18+ is an adult-film category, not a game rating
Australia’s official classification guide lists G, PG and M as advisory film-and-game ratings, followed by MA 15+ and R 18+ as restricted categories for films and computer games. It then lists X 18+ separately under ‘Restricted rating for adult films.’ A computer game cannot receive that category. Material beyond permitted game classifications can instead be refused classification.
The label cannot prove actual sex scenes
A viral post used the ad to suggest GTA 6 could contain actual sex scenes. That inference reverses the evidence: because X 18+ does not apply to games, the label is evidence of an inconsistent advertisement, not evidence that the Board assessed GTA 6 for explicit activity. No reviewed Rockstar statement or Australian decision supports the claim.
A similarly named database result is not Rockstar’s GTA 6
The Australian database currently has a page titled ‘GTA 6 - GRAND THEFT AUTO,’ but its details identify a 2024 PG-rated IARC submission from a production company named ughbug, with mild violence and online chat. Those metadata do not match Rockstar’s 2026 release. The page should not be cited as GTA 6’s official Australian rating.
What remains unresolved about the real classifications
The other regional labels seen in PlayStation advertising align with the adult categories normally associated with Grand Theft Auto, and GTAVice.net reports PEGI 18 appearing on a PlayStation Store page. Even so, GTA6 Watch has not treated every advertisement as a final board decision. The reliable conclusion is narrow: the Australian X 18+ claim is invalid, while the eventual official Australian rating still requires a matching publisher or Classification Board record.
