GTA 6 makes vehicle theft and police escapes depend on tools, disguises and preparation

Stealing a parked car in GTA 6 will not always be a one-button action. Rockstar says some vehicles remain inaccessible until Jason and Lucia acquire the right tools, while police can identify their clothing and current vehicle during a pursuit. Personal cars can carry spare outfits and purchased weapons, giving preparation a practical role before and after a crime.

Some cars require tools and progression

Nelson says certain parked vehicles cannot be stolen until the player has acquired the appropriate equipment. The examples include a slim jim and a key cloner. That introduces a progression layer to ordinary vehicle theft: a valuable target can be visible in the world before Jason or Lucia has the means to take it. Rockstar has not said whether those tools are permanent unlocks, consumables or tied to specific missions.

A scanner reveals the risk behind the target

The interview describes a scanner that can show whether a vehicle is locked, fitted with an alarm or carrying a tracker. It can also display value and the cost of registering the car. The information turns a parked vehicle into a risk calculation rather than a purely cosmetic choice. A high-value car may demand better tools and create a more difficult escape, but Rockstar has not yet shown the complete interface publicly.

Police can remember clothing and vehicles

During a wanted event, police can know the protagonists' appearance, clothing and current vehicle. An outfit can become compromised, and a more advanced tracker may continue revealing a vehicle at low speed. Nelson suggests that leaving the car and moving through an alley can be a better option around three stars. This does not remove the wanted meter. It adds more reasons to break the chain of identification.

Personal vehicles become mobile preparation spaces

Purchased weapons and spare outfits can be stored in a personal vehicle. That gives the trunk a role beyond animation or storage flavour. A player can arrive with equipment, change clothes after a crime and leave with a different visual profile. The interview does not confirm an unlimited inventory, remote vehicle delivery in every situation or protection against losing stored items.

Criminal Profile is broader than a wanted level

Rockstar describes Criminal Profile as separate from the relationship system and from an individual police pursuit. Repeated aggression that is not required by the situation can influence how the world and narrative respond. Nelson says there is no single correct way to play. The system appears designed to acknowledge patterns of behaviour, not to assign a simple good or evil score, but its thresholds and visible feedback remain unknown.
