GTA VI trademark filing is live after an eight-day lapse — what the USPTO record actually shows

A US application for the GTA VI logo was briefly marked abandoned in April, but the same official file records its revival eight days later and remains live today. GTA 6 Watch checked USPTO application 98298472 after GTAVice.net drew attention to it on September 27. The record shows a procedural interruption in one entertainment-services application, not evidence that Take-Two has abandoned GTA 6 or lost all rights to its branding.

The eight-day sequence is in the official history

USPTO TSDR lists “ABANDONMENT - NO USE STATEMENT FILED” on April 6, 2026. On April 14 it records receipt of a petition to revive, the granting of that petition and a notice of revival. Those entries are eight days apart. The sequence matters more than the isolated word “abandoned”: the file itself records the subsequent reversal. These are historical events now being discussed again, not a fresh September abandonment.

The current application is live, but still pending

The status panel checked on September 28 describes the file as “LIVE/APPLICATION/Under Examination.” Its current status says that a third request for more time to file a Statement of Use has been granted, dated August 20, 2026. The prosecution history lists that extension as both filed and granted on August 20, followed by an emailed approval notice on August 21. This supports the conclusion that the application is alive; it does not turn a pending filing into an issued registration.

Which part of GTA VI branding does this filing cover?

The owner is Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. The mark description identifies a Roman numeral VI containing palm trees with the words Grand Theft Auto over it. Its active international class is 041, covering specified entertainment services, including online computer and video games and websites providing gaming information and audiovisual material. This is a defined application for particular services, not a single switch controlling the existence of the whole GTA brand.

The language of the filing is not a GTA Online announcement

The services list refers to online games, websites, music, video and other entertainment material. Such wording states the scope sought by the applicant; it does not announce that each listed use is a new product, or disclose a launch timetable for GTA 6 multiplayer. The record therefore cannot establish a GTA Online release date. Nor does the April abandonment entry supply evidence that GTA 6 was cancelled or delayed.

What the record does not explain

The public status code tells us that the office recorded an abandonment associated with the use-statement process, and the later entries document revival and extensions. It does not reveal Take-Two’s internal explanation for the lapse. GTAVice.net also discusses other applications, including a separate abandoned printed-materials filing, but that is not the same file as 98298472. The verified conclusion here is specific: this entertainment-services application recovered in April and remains live and pending.
