Confirmed

GTA 6 preload begins November 10 and may require up to 212 GB

Rockstar has moved GTA VI digital preloading forward to November 10, nine days before the November 19 launch. The publisher says the download can require up to 212 GB depending on the device, confirming that players should prepare substantial free space while leaving the final installed size on each console unresolved.

Digital preloading now begins November 10

Rockstar’s announcement moves the digital preload forward from the previously reported November 12 date. That creates a longer window before GTA VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. A preload downloads encrypted game data in advance; it does not grant early access or move the release date. GTA BOOM reports that PlayStation preloading begins at midnight local time, while Xbox uses a global midnight GMT start. Readers should still follow the timing displayed on their own storefront because regional account settings and platform scheduling determine when a download becomes available.

What up to 212 GB actually tells us

The wording matters. “Up to” identifies a maximum requirement across supported devices, not a promise that every console will download and retain exactly 212 GB. Compression, language packs, platform packaging and installation processes can produce different figures. Consoles may also need extra temporary headroom while unpacking files. Rockstar has not published a PS5-versus-Xbox table in the reviewed announcement. The number is therefore a planning ceiling. It should not be reused as an exact Xbox Series S installation size or as evidence for a PC version, which remains unannounced.

The earlier 210 GB report now has official context

PlayStation Game Size previously reported a 210 GB PS5 download, with Insider Gaming saying it had corroborated the figure. Rockstar’s 212 GB ceiling lands close to that claim, but the measurements may represent different stages or platform fields. The official figure supersedes the rumor as the safest storage guide. That does not mean the earlier reporting should be rewritten as an exact official disclosure. It was attributed information at the time. The new announcement explains why it was plausible and provides the first publisher-backed number readers can use.

How to prepare without overbuying storage

Players can review installed games, capture files and expansion storage before November 10. A wired connection or stable overnight download may help, but completion times will vary with real throughput, platform servers and local network conditions. Buying an SSD solely from a headline number is not necessary for everyone. The sensible sequence is to check the console’s reported free space, wait for the platform’s own preload prompt, then move or delete software only if required. The maximum is large, but it is not a forecast of every future update.
